General information for the period 2021-2027

The LIFE Programme is a European Union funding instrument that supports green innovation and clean technologies related to the environment, nature conservation, climate action and energy objectives. The aim of the programme is to support the transition to a clean, circular, energy-efficient and climate-neutral economy through innovative projects and new solutions in line with EU policies.

Funding and objectives

For the period 2021-2027, €5.4 billion is foreseen under the LIFE programme, thus contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal. Organisations can apply for funds under two sub-programmes

1. Environment (LIFE Environment)
2. Climate Action (LIFE Climate Action)

What is funded under the LIFE programme?

- Projects that pilot or demonstrate new eco-innovative technologies, methods and approaches;
- Projects promoting best practices and behavioural changes;
- Implementation and enforcement of plans and strategies in line with EU legislation.

Who can apply?

- Commercial companies;
- Public authorities;
- Non-governmental organisations;
- Countries associated with the LIFE programme.

Organisations can apply individually or in a consortium. The EU encourages international projects within the eligible countries of the programme.
